To create a dashboard item in the Dashboard Designer, click the corresponding button in the Home ribbon tab.

This creates an empty dashboard item, and displays the required data sections for binding this item to data (for instance, the image below displays the Pivot dashboard item and corresponding data sections).

Perform the following steps to design a dashboard item:

1. Select the [Data Source](docId\:Qmc6ulMa6O840JNLn0SBq) 
2. Drag the [Select Fields and Configure Axis](docId:5Usz-Ny95XvIjrvAoZtyU) into the appropriate locations 
3. Use the [Interactivity](docId\:yg7SN2-Z0Nk2-Rq1jsv3Y) features to enable interaction between dashboard items 
4. Adjust the position and size of elements and specify the caption. 
5. Adjust the dashboard item settings. 

After a item is created it can be saved, duplicated, or converted to another type of element.
